Mother Of Five Murdered
New details have been released in the murder of a Deer Park mother of five.
Chanin Denice Starbuck, 42, was found in the bedroom of her rental home at 509 N. Reiper St., apparently a victim of strangulation and sexual assault. Her ex-husband, Clay Duane Starbuck, 47, is now being accused of killing her and positioning her body to mislead police.
According to the search warrant obtained by the police, Starbuck allegedly lured his wife away from the residence and while she was taking the children to school, broke into the home and hid. When she returned home, he killed her and staged the body in a debasing manner placing sex toys in the room, “like they were on display.” Police recovered several items of interest including a cell phone, cameras, computers, and documents.
A former oil worker in Alaska, Starbuck, was apprehended Monday morning in Deer Park during a traffic stop. He appeared in the Spokane County Superior Court facing charges of first-degree burglary and aggravated first-degree murder. Bail was set at $1 million and Starbuck has been barred from any contact with his children.
Arraignment has been set for February 21, although as of Tuesday evening, no formal charges had been filed.
